[Sunday,] January 23, 1949 Prof. Zondek forbids me from traveling to the Valley. – Yediot Ahronot published the following predictions by Ben Zion Katz: Mapai gets 36-37 mandates (not %), Herut 20 mandates, Mapam 18, the Religious Front 15-16, General Zionists and Progressives 5 each, in sum 103-4 (incorrect! The maximum is just 101, minimum just 99). The rest will go to the other voting tickets. His conclusion is certainly unreasonable. Gruenbaum, Auster, Sheetrit, Yemenites, WIZO [Women’s International Zionist Organization], and others – inconceivable that they would receive 20 mandates[.] ETZEL is still close to B.Z.
