Moshe [Sharett] and Reuven [Shiloah] came: The talks in Rhodes are continuing. After the Egyptians, the other Arab states will come, and it won’t be possible to have [Walter] Eytan and [Yigael] Yadin in Rhodes the whole time. Therefore they want to replace them with others. Yadin – with [Moshe] Dayan and Eytan with someone. This doesn’t seem right to me. The talks with the Arabs are currently – aside from victory in the war – the main factor that will determine the fate of our state for decades, or at least years. There is no greater political interest, and it’s necessary to have the best minds in the army and the Foreign Ministry participating. No one will replace Yadin. I do not know whether Eytan is the [right] man, but if he is the most important person in the Foreign Ministry – then he should be there.
– In consultation with [Ya’akov Shimshon] Shapira, I drafted the announcement on the abolition of the military government in Jerusalem.
– In the evening, at McDonald’s place – they showed a film about the presidential elections in America.
