After nine days of bed rest in Jerusalem, I returned to Tel Aviv this morning. I was ordered by [Professor Hermann] Zondek to take another ten days of bed rest, and after that one day per week.

The president telephoned me [to say] that he was tasking me with forming a government.

While still in Jerusalem I invited the General Zionists, the Religious Front, and Mapam to meet today to discuss the composition of the government. The talks at the president’s residence were not encouraging. G.Z. are demanding two (!) and no socialism.

         – G.Z. were the first who came to see me – Rokach, Sapir, and Shoshana. The conversation lasted from 12 to 1:45. Minutes were taken.

         – In the afternoon – from 4 to 7 – representatives of the Religious Front came to see me: Shapira, Pinkas, and Rabbi Kahana. [They] demanded 3 portfolios – “today as an ultimatum” – minutes were also taken here.

         – Today an armistice agreement was signed with Egypt. Following the founding of the state and our victories on the battlefield, this is the major event of this year of wonders.

         – In the evening – from 8 to 11:30, consultation with Mapam representatives: Riptin and Ben-Aharon. Riptin acted Kachkanik [?]. This time as well, minutes were taken by stenograph.
