Shaul [Avigur]: Alon [Yehuda Arazi]'s upcoming transport [shipment] will set out on September 14. [It includes] 27 anti-aircraft and anti-tank 20 mm Isotta Fraschini C. [cannons], 170,000 shells for them; Ehud [Avriel]'s upcoming shipment: 10,000 rifles, 500 MG-34 [machine guns], 200 Besa [machine gun]s, 5 million bullets and ammunition for "Knives" [Messerschmitts].
[Cannons] in our possession (with Mexico and Yugoslavia shipment) 65 mm C. - 48; 75 mm C. - 82; 20 mm C. - 36; 120 mm mortars - 12 (some of these broke down or were lost. Conversely, there's enemy loot that will work). For 65 mm C. there were 50,000 shells, for 75 C. - 100,000 shells, for 20 mm C. - 300,000, for 120 mm mortars - 12,000 shells. Another 50,000 shells have been ordered for 65 mm C., but won't arrive before October.
- In the afternoon I dined with Ben-Zion [Israeli], [Levi] Eshkol, and [Abraham] Zabrasky. Ben-Zion wants to organize the army and the settlement enterprise and cooperatives on the basis of individual work, and to incorporate this into the Cultural Division; he proposes "recruiting" 3-4 men to do this. He's bringing a proposal. Along with Zabrasky and Eshkol we discussed budgetary questions.
Gideon Ben-Yisrael, who was wounded in Jerusalem, and they can't remove the bullet from his right hand, was discharged from active duty. He does not want to continue with office work, and he's asking [Ya'akov] Dori for more productive work.
- In the afternoon government meeting - on a delegation to the UN, on the Ministry of Defense ([Aharon] Zisling is complaining about a "party" bias).
- At 9 p.m. Rosenblüth [Pinchas Rosen] and [Dov] Yosef on the law governing captured territory. Yosef objects to the law - it's [a law that operates] against a "military governor regime" and approaches annexation. I didn't accept his argument.
- At 9:30 - [Levi] Eshkol and Shaul [Avigur] on procurements and purchasing arrangements.
