We consulted this morning – Moshe [Sharett], [Shabtai] Rosenne, Reuven [Shiloah], and Ya’akov [Dori] – on the proposals by Bunche and the Egyptians. In my opinion we should concede on the question of ‘Auja – if this concession will bring us an agreement with the Egyptians, on the condition that we have freedom of operation in the southern Triangle – up to Eilat, per Yigael [Yadin]’s proposal.
– At 10 a meeting of commanders with the Staff on reorganization of the brigades, composition of the army reserves using discharged soldiers, relations between the General Staff departments and the units.
– In the afternoon government meeting. My proposal on ‘Auja was accepted unanimously, aside from Zisling, who voted against, and Bentov who was too embarrassed to vote in favor.
– After the meeting a long conversation with Gruenbaum. He’s very sad and bitter about losing. He claims that Rosenblüth didn’t agree to have him at the head of the ticket, and he was forced to run on a separate ticket. He’s prepared to work for the government or in internal administration, either education or immigrant absorption. I told him I was thinking of giving [the Ministry of] Interior to Golda.
